As promised, a new book series is in the works! The Occan Chronicles will focus on a girl thrust into a world of magic where there are six rulers that control a different aspect of magic each. All is not as it seems in this world, however, and you can expect dark times ahead. It will be a trilogy and the first book, Learning to Wield, will be the book I write for Camp NaNo! You can expect the first chapter to be out on April 1st [no joke!]. Below is a preview of the book covers [subject to change] as well as a small synopsis of the first book. Rosaline Walsh has always been different. Not because she frequently finds herself in detention, nor is it due to the fact that she has interests that are considered unusual by most of her eighth grade classmates. Rosaline Walsh was always different because of something else. Something she didn’t find out about until her final exams arrived. It was around that time that she was told that her whole life had been a lie. A cover up. And now it was time for her to return to the land where she belonged. The land called Occanasia that was home to the Wielders, people that trained to use magic in their everyday lives. However, not all is as it seems in Occanasia, and Rosaline finds that even in this place, which is supposedly her home land, she is still different. And the people refuse to reveal whether being different is a bad thing or not… Stay tuned till April 1st for the Prologue and first chapter!

For those that don't know, NaNoWriMo stands for National Novel Writing Month. It takes place annually in November, except for Camp NaNo which takes place in the months of April and July. The idea is to write 50,000 words in a span of 30 days. Camp NaNo however allows you to set a target for yourself, not necessarily 50,000 words, but the objective is the same - to reach that number by the end of the month.
I've attempted NaNoWriMo and Camp NaNoWriMo three times -- so far I haven't achieved my target, though I came close last november. I managed to complete 39,000 words out of 50,000 and that, for me, is a huge achievement since I tend to procrastinate a lot. I intend to participate this year too, starting with Camp NaNo next month -- only 10 days to go -- so I'm gearing up and hoping to succeed this time! If you're participating and need a writing buddy, let me know in the comments below! You can also contact me on nanowrimo.org under the username -verdant-. Happy writing! Currently I'm only working one novel, the first book in a series, which would be The Gaea Emblem -- more about it can be found under My Books -- but I will be starting a new story soon enough which will be more of a realistic/contemporary story, and also another which will be my project for Camp NaNoWriMo.
Welcome to my blog!
Here, I'll not only be posting updates for my books, but I'll also be sharing new designs I make -- I'm a Photoshop junkie -- as well as typing down thoughts, poetry, and short stories that I come up with on a whim. For a long time, I kept most of my writing to myself, but I realised that if I did that, I'd never get any feedback and I wouldn't know where to improve. Keeping everything here on an open forum not only allows me to get outsider opinions, but also motivates me to write more. And so, the journey begins. Thanks for coming along. :) |
